Cooperative = People working together as equals to realise their common dreams.
Cooperatives put fairness and equality at the heart of the enterprise, creating meaningful work that allows people to be themselves.
They are democratically managed by the 'one member, one vote' rule: members share equal voting rights regardless of the amount of capital they put into the enterprise.
In a cooperative, profits generated are either reinvested in the enterprise or returned to the members.
The primary purpose of the cooperative model is to meet the needs of the workers, producers, users, and the wider community - not the shareholders, because there aren't any!
We own it! is a campaign on youth cooperative entrepreneurship developed by CICOPA, the international organisation of worker cooperatives, social cooperatives, producers’ cooperatives and other types of cooperatives in industry and services.
